E.L. Haynes Public Charter School

New School Feasibility Study And Program Management

E. L. Haynes Public Charter School is the first public school in Washington DC to use a year-round calendar. In 2006 the school needed to determine the feasibility of constructing a new facility to accommodate its growing student enrollment. B&D was hired to perform this study and as a result of our work, the school purchased land and began the process of design and construction. We were then retained to serve as its owner’s representative and manage the planning, design, and construction of the building. In addition, we managed the project’s budget and schedule, selected architects and construction management, performed inspections, monitored cash flow, and guided all parties through regular construction meetings. In 2008 the new $10 million, five-story school opened with 45,000 SF of classrooms, a science lab, an art studio, music room, cafeteria, gymnasium, and office space.
